There Is No Last Straw
A filling falls out. There’s a mix-up at the laundromat. The car is making a weird noise. It’s tax time again. The gas valve on the boiler is leaking. The city is cutting down your trees. You can’t find a flashlight to go look at the boiler. Trains are running twenty minutes late. The bicycle has a flat. The door lock is sticking from the cold. Why is my left eye twitching?
Hudsonblick 24: No Fun
Fun is suspicious. It is, at best, frivolous. There is no „right to fun“ protected by the constitution (although a few r[DIE VERWENDUNG DES URSPRUENGLICHEN NAMENS DES UNTERNEHMENS WURDE UNS UNTERSAGT]s did propose a right to pursue happiness). If anything, we must be protected from it. Due to fun’s flashy appeal (it’s FUN!), it must be taken off of the streets, away from vulnerable children, and isolated to sanctioned fun zones for those wastrels who cannot resist its hollow allure.

It’s been almost a month since my trip to Dublin; a last, feckless tour-de-force before my wife and I become parents. The goal was essentially to drink myself blind, and with the assistance of some friends/enablers I was able to come fairly close. It’s hard to describe a rational thread that went through the weekend. I can recall strangely named statues, some chatty taxi drivers, rows of Edwardian townhouses, and a few meals that I would rather forget. There was nothing I ate in Dublin that I wouldn’t gladly toss in the gutter for a cold currywurst.
